MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFF RACE COMES DOWN TO FINAL MATCH
The Little Rock School District middle school volleyball regular season is coming down to its final day, and with playoff berths on the line, Monday, October 12, promises to be an exciting finish.
After a competitive season featuring eight LRSD middle school programs, the final matches will determine the four teams that advance to the 7th Grade Playoffs and the four teams that advance to the 8th Grade Playoffs. While several teams have already positioned themselves well, a number of playoff spots and seeds remain up for grabs.
7th Grade Race
In the 7th grade standings, Pinnacle View has established itself as the class of the conference. The SkyHawks enter the final match undefeated at 13-0 and have already secured a spot in the playoffs.
Behind Pinnacle View, the race is much tighter.
Pulaski Heights and Forest Heights are tied for second place at 10-3, making the final match especially important. Pulaski Heights will face undefeated Pinnacle View, while Forest Heights will take on Lacey Academy. Depending on the results, the order of the top three could change before the playoffs begin.
The biggest battle, however, may be for the final playoff spot.
Lacey Academy and Horace Mann are both 7-6, meaning Monday's results could determine which team earns the fourth and final 7th grade playoff berth.
Lacey Academy faces Forest Heights, while Horace Mann takes on Mabelvale. A Lacey victory would put the Lions at 8-6 and give them a strong opportunity to secure the fourth position. A Horace Mann victory would also move the Bearcats to 8-6 and put significant pressure on Lacey.
If both teams win, they would remain tied at 8-6. If both teams lose, they would finish the regular season tied at 7-7, potentially bringing conference tiebreaker procedures into play.
That makes the Lacey Academy-Forest Heights and Horace Mann-Mabelvale matches two of the most important games of the final day.
8th Grade Race
The 8th grade standings feature another tight race near the top and a dramatic battle for the fourth and final playoff position.
Forest Heights has dominated the regular season, entering Monday's final match undefeated at 13-0. The Eagles have already secured their place in the postseason and will look to complete a perfect regular season against Lacey Academy.
Pinnacle View sits in second at 11-2, followed by Pulaski Heights at 10-3. The two teams will meet Monday in a matchup that could have major implications for the final playoff seeding.
If Pinnacle View wins, the SkyHawks would finish 12-2 and remain in second place. If Pulaski Heights wins, both teams would finish 11-3, creating a potential tie for second place and making the final standings and applicable tiebreaker procedures important.
The most intriguing race may be for fourth place.
Horace Mann currently holds fourth place at 7-6, but Dunbar is right behind at 6-7. The two teams are separated by only one game in the standings.
Horace Mann will face Mabelvale on Monday, while Dunbar takes on JA Fair. A Mann victory would move the Bearcats to 8-6 and secure the fourth playoff position. However, if Mann loses and Dunbar wins, both teams would finish 7-7, creating the possibility of a tie for the final playoff berth.
With the top four teams advancing, every set and every match could prove important.
